Enhancements to the Tangier-Fes Railway Line
A significant upgrade initiative for the railway line connecting Tangier and Fes has commenced, marking a new phase in the project aimed at enhancing the capacity of this vital transportation route. The current works involve the construction of 29 kilometers of new rail lines, along with the renewal of an existing three-kilometer segment. In addition, approximately 32 kilometers of electrical infrastructure will be installed to ensure efficient power supply for train operations.
The project focuses primarily on doubling the railway track between the Magouga area and the 16+900 kilometer point, while also renovating several railway structures at the Kasr al-Saghir station. Moreover, improvements are planned for the Ain Dalia station, which will include the electrification of service lines as part of a broader plan to enhance the current railway infrastructure.
These developments are being executed at the request of the National Office of Railways and are under the technical supervision of InfraWay Morocco, with a projected timeline of 12 months for completion. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to advance the railway infrastructure in the Tangier region, which is experiencing ongoing industrial and logistical expansion, alongside increasing passenger and freight transport demand.
It is important to note that this project does not involve the construction of a new railway line between Tangier and Fes; rather, it focuses on the expansion and modernization of specific segments of the existing line, particularly around the Magouga area, as well as interventions at the Kasr al-Saghir and Ain Dalia stations.
