Severe Weather Alerts for Morocco
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an urgent weather advisory indicating a new heatwave coupled with strong local thunderstorms and hail showers across various regions of Morocco. This weather phenomenon is anticipated to commence today, Thursday, and continue through Friday, prompting authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions.
According to the meteorological report, temperatures are expected to soar between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius in regions such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Smara, Errachidia, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oussard, Wazan, Larache, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Meknes, Fkih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Khmissat, El Rhammna, Marrakech, Qalaat Sraghna, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kassem, Kenitra, Zagora, and Tata. Furthermore, temperatures ranging from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius are projected in areas including Youssoufia, Rabat, Salé, Khénifra, Taroudant, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, and Sidi Bennour, reflecting a continuing rise in temperatures across northern, central, and southern Morocco.
Regarding rainfall predictions, the advisory highlights the expectation of strong thunderstorms with rainfall amounts between 20 and 40 millimeters, along with hail and wind gusts, particularly in the regions of Oued Ed-Dahab and Oussard starting from 3 PM today until 6 AM tomorrow. Additionally, thunderstorms are anticipated to bring rainfall amounts ranging from 15 to 25 millimeters in Qalaat Sraghna, Al Haouz, Azilal, Chichaoua, El Rhammna, and Marrakech, beginning from 2 PM today until 11 PM tonight.
