New Jersey to Host Moroccan National Team Training Camp for 2026 World Cup

New Jersey Welcomes the Moroccan National Team for World Cup Preparations

The state of New Jersey is set to become a training hub for four national football teams during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including the Moroccan national team. This decision underscores the area's growing appeal as a prime location for hosting major sporting events. According to reports from "The Athletic," these teams have finalized their training center selections in the state, with an official announcement expected this week. This development positions New Jersey as one of the most sought-after destinations during the tournament, which will take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Moroccan team will utilize the facilities at Pingry School as their training base during the tournament. This venue has historical significance, as it was previously used during the 1994 World Cup by the Italian national team, which reached the final that year. Interestingly, the Moroccan squad will train in proximity to the Brazilian team, the 1994 World Cup champions, who will be based at the Columbia Park Training Center, home to the New York Red Bulls and recently renovated to enhance its capabilities.

Additionally, the Haitian national team will hold their training sessions at Stockton University, while the Senegalese team will choose Rutgers University as their training site. The significance of New Jersey in this year's World Cup is further emphasized by the fact that MetLife Stadium is scheduled to host the final match on July 19, 2026, along with several group stage matches.

Despite some ongoing tensions between FIFA and the state authorities regarding transportation costs, the decision to host four prominent national teams in New Jersey is a positive indicator of its status as a global destination for major sporting events. Governor Murphy has expressed enthusiasm about the state hosting these teams, viewing the event as a historic opportunity to boost economic activity and tourism while welcoming millions of fans from around the world.
