New Weather Alert Issued in Morocco: Heatwave and Thunderstorms Expected

Heatwave Conditions and Thunderstorms Forecasted Across Morocco

According to the Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology, a new weather alert has been issued, indicating an orange level of caution due to an impending heatwave. This phenomenon is expected to bring temperatures ranging from 38 to 43 degrees Celsius, accompanied by strong local thunderstorms and hail in several regions throughout the country.

The weather advisory, released on Friday, May 29, 2026, highlights that the heatwave will primarily affect the provinces of Tan-Tan, Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, and Awserd. Temperatures in these areas are projected to reach between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius from May 29 to June 1, 2026.

Additionally, the meteorological service anticipates temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees in several other regions, including Taounate, Settat, Qalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rahamna, Khemisset, Fez, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Sidi Kacem, Fkih Ben Saleh, Meknes, Moulay Yacoub, and Wazzan. These conditions are expected to persist from Saturday, May 30, through Monday, June 1, 2026.

In conjunction with the heatwave, the Directorate General has also issued warnings regarding the possibility of localized intense thunderstorms with hail, which could result in rainfall levels between 15 and 25 millimeters. These storms are expected to occur on Friday afternoon, from 1 PM to 10 PM, particularly affecting the regions of Beni Mellal, Midelt, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Azilal, and Khenifra.
