Nexus Core Systems' Ambitious AI Project in Morocco
Nexus Core Systems, a company specializing in artificial intelligence infrastructure, graphics processing units (GPUs), and machine learning, has announced a significant investment plan to establish an AI facility in Morocco. On April 8, 2026, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Moroccan authorities to invest approximately 12 billion Moroccan dirhams (about $1.28 billion) in this venture. This agreement was formalized during the GITEX Africa 2026 technology exhibition held from April 7 to 9 in Marrakech, marking the operational launch of the initial phases of the project named 'Nexus AI Factory Platform.'
The Nexus AI Factory aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem by integrating a high-performance computing (HPC) data center, a center of excellence for services and skills transfer, and an innovation hub designed to nurture future solutions. The project is expected to contribute significantly to positioning Morocco as a regional hub for the digital economy, which is a critical aspect of the country's broader economic strategy.
Supporting Morocco's Digital Transformation Strategy
The planned factory is designed to generate around 125 direct jobs by 2027 and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will require an investment of 5 billion dirhams to establish a hub with a capacity of 16 megawatts (MW) in the Nouaceur region. The second phase will see an additional 7 billion dirhams mobilized for further expansion at another site, enhancing capacity by an additional 20 MW.
This initiative aligns with Morocco's digital transformation strategy, "Maroc Digital 2030," which aims to increase the contribution of the digital economy to 5% of the national GDP. Launched in 2024, this strategy also targets the creation of 270,000 jobs, the establishment of 3,000 start-ups, and the digitalization of public services. The Moroccan Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, emphasized that the launch of the Nexus AI Factory Platform would bolster the country's digital infrastructure and enhance its capabilities in digital technology and artificial intelligence.
Jaap Zuiderveld, the CEO of Nexus Core Systems, highlighted Morocco's unique combination of political stability, visionary leadership, and exceptional talent, asserting that the Nexus AI Factory would not only deploy high-performance infrastructure but also create an integrated ecosystem that includes a Center of Excellence to support global operations from Morocco and a dynamic Innovation Hub. Founded in partnership with Lloyds Capital in 2025, Nexus Core Systems plans to develop several AI factories optimized for demanding workloads worldwide, leveraging cutting-edge technologies from leading tech giants such as Nvidia and Naver Cloud.
