Nigeria and Morocco Sign Revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement
Nigeria has taken a significant stride in bolstering its air transport relations with the Kingdom of Morocco by signing a reviewed Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). This pivotal agreement was formalized by Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during the ongoing Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) held in Marrakech. As part of his activities at the symposium, Minister Keyamo participated in high-level meetings with leaders from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to advancing its aviation sector. Notably, during a courtesy visit to Toshiyuki Onuma, President of the ICAO Council, Nigeria received accolades for its initiative in developing a comprehensive Civil Aviation Masterplan (CAMP). Onuma praised Keyamo's insightful presentation on “The Future of Aviation’s Workforce,” which he delivered at the symposium, highlighting Nigeria’s proactive approach to aviation workforce development.
The ICAO Council President reiterated the organization's dedication to supporting Nigeria in various domains, including workforce development and capacity building, essential for implementing strategic programs that will strengthen the aviation ecosystem. In a reciprocal gesture, Minister Keyamo reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to aligning with ICAO’s global standards and its long-term vision aimed at establishing a safe, secure, and sustainable aviation industry.
Moreover, during the event, Keyamo engaged with the European Union delegation to explore avenues for expanding technical assistance, enhancing safety oversight, and deepening institutional collaboration. These discussions underscored a mutual commitment to advancing Nigeria's aviation reforms, enhancing regulatory capabilities, and modernizing the sector in line with global best practices.
