Official Announcement on Venue Change for MAS vs. Raja Match
In a significant development, the regional company for the Fès-Meknes region responsible for sports facilities has decided to close the Grand Stadium of Fès starting this week. This closure will prevent the Maghreb Association Sportive (MAS) from hosting its matches in the mentioned stadium. The regional company has rejected requests from MAS officials to allow the team to play their CAF Champions League match against ASEC Mimosas, as well as their professional league matches at the Grand Stadium, insisting instead on its closure for ongoing renovations. The aim of these renovations is to prepare the stadium for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2030.
Consequently, the highly anticipated clash between Morocco's Fès and Raja Club Athletic during the third round of the professional league will be held outside of Fès. MAS officials are making arrangements to hold the match at the municipal stadium in Meknes, which is considered the nearest alternative to Fès. Abdel Salam Balqashour, the president of the Professional Football League, has confirmed that the league has contacted the authorities in Meknes to request permission to conduct both matches against Raja and ASEC Mimosas at the city's stadium, given its proximity to Fès. Previously, MAS officials had requested to keep the Grand Stadium of Fès open until the completion of renovations at the Hassan II Stadium, where they intended to play. However, this request was denied by the regional company responsible for sports facilities in the Fès-Meknes region.
