CAS Hearing Scheduled for October 8

On September 30, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced the official date for the hearing regarding the contentious final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Morocco and Senegal. This highly anticipated event is set to take place on October 8 in Lausanne, Switzerland, where representatives from both the Senegalese Football Federation and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation will be present. They will be joined by advisors from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The hearing will be overseen by a panel consisting of French lawyer Gérald Simon, Italian Luigi Fumagalli, and German Ulrich Haas.

This hearing arises from an appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation following a controversial decision rendered by CAF’s Appeals Commission. On March 17, the commission ruled that Senegal, which had initially won the match 1-0 on the field, was instead declared the loser with a score of 3-0 due to a post-match disciplinary action.

The final match occurred on January 18, where Senegal's players briefly left the field in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco, showcasing the high tensions surrounding this match. The upcoming CAS hearing is crucial, as it will determine the final outcome of the tournament and potentially alter the standings officially recognized by CAF.
