Official Report Highlights Labor Participation Trends in Morocco
An official report released by the High Commission for Planning in Morocco has shed light on the employment landscape during the second quarter of 2026. According to the findings, four specific regions have recorded labor participation rates exceeding the national average of 42.2 percent. The regions leading this statistic include Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, with an impressive participation rate of 59.2 percent, followed by Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 46.8 percent, Casablanca-Settat at 46.7 percent, and Marrakech-Safi at 43.1 percent.
On the contrary, the report indicates that the regions with the lowest labor participation rates are Drâa-Tafilalet at 30.5 percent, the Eastern region at 36.6 percent, Souss-Massa at 37.6 percent, and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra at 39.7 percent. This disparity highlights significant regional differences in employment opportunities and engagement in the labor market across Morocco.
Unemployment Rates Reveal Regional Disparities
In terms of unemployment, the report reveals that Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra has the highest unemployment rate at 26.2 percent, followed by Guelmim-Oued Noun at 24.9 percent. The Eastern region follows with a rate of 20.1 percent, and Fez-Meknes at 18.8 percent. Casablanca-Settat also surpasses the national unemployment average of 14.7 percent, recording a rate of 16.7 percent.
Conversely, the regions with the lowest unemployment rates include Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab at only 1.7 percent, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 4.9 percent, and Beni Mellal-Khenifra at 6.1 percent. These statistics not only illustrate the varied economic conditions across different regions but also underscore the need for targeted policies to address unemployment and improve labor participation in the less engaged areas.
