Oracle's Groundbreaking Cloud Infrastructure in North Africa
On April 7th, during Gitex Africa Morocco 2026 in Marrakech, Oracle announced the launch of its public cloud region in Casablanca, marking a significant milestone as the first hyperscaler to establish such infrastructure in North Africa. This strategic development is expected to revolutionize the technological landscape of the region, providing businesses, startups, and public organizations in Morocco access to a comprehensive suite of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure services. These offerings include cutting-edge capabilities in generative artificial intelligence and the latest multicloud solutions.
This new cloud region, operated by N+ONE Datacenters, aligns with Oracle's distributed cloud strategy, aimed at facilitating the modernization of Moroccan organizations. By enabling the migration of workloads to the cloud, Oracle ensures that data hosting and processing remain within the national territory, thereby addressing the sovereignty requirements of public sectors, governmental bodies, and heavily regulated industries.
Supporting Morocco's Digital Transformation Goals
Cormac Watters, Oracle's Executive Vice President and General Manager for EMEA, emphasized that this launch is a pivotal step in reinforcing Morocco's position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and digital innovation. The establishment of secure and efficient infrastructures will benefit organizations across the nation and the broader region. The Oracle Cloud Casablanca region is fully aligned with the Moroccan government's "Digital Morocco 2030" strategy, offering solutions such as the OCI AI Agent Platform, OCI Generative AI Service, and Oracle AI Data Platform. This infrastructure will enable Moroccan startups and investors to leverage AI for training and inference of models, fostering a dynamic ecosystem for innovation.
Oracle's ambitions in Morocco do not end here; a second public cloud region is planned for Settat, alongside a research and development center. In Africa, Oracle already operates a cloud region in Johannesburg and has announced plans for another in Nairobi, Kenya. This rapid expansion positions Oracle as one of the leading hyperscalers in Africa, boasting over 200 cloud regions in production or planned worldwide, encompassing public, dedicated, hybrid, and multicloud deployments.
