Severe Heat Wave Expected Across Eastern Regions
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange alert warning for an impending heat wave and strong thunderstorms across several regions of the kingdom. According to the advisory, temperatures are expected to soar as high as 44 degrees Celsius, accompanied by localized thunderstorms that may occasionally produce hail and strong wind gusts.
Specifically, it is anticipated that the temperatures will range between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius in the provinces of Taza, Berkane, Oujda-Angad, Fes, Moulay Yacoub, and Taounate during the weekend of June 20 and 21, 2026.
Weather Variability and Public Safety Recommendations
In addition to the rising temperatures, provinces such as Errachidia, Jerada, Taourirt, Figuig, Zagora, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, Oussard, Kserif, Boulemane, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, and Smara are expected to experience temperatures ranging from 39 to 44 degrees Celsius from Saturday through Tuesday, June 23.
The weather advisory also highlights that thunderstorms with rainfall levels between 20 and 30 mm are forecasted for the provinces of Khénifra, Al Hajeb, Ifrane, and Sefrou on Saturday, between 2 PM and 11 PM. In light of these weather conditions, citizens are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas affected by the advisory, as the hot weather may lead to local weather disturbances potentially accompanied by strong winds and hail.
