Severe Weather Advisory Issued for Morocco
The General Directorate of Meteorology in Morocco has announced the implementation of an updated orange alert weather notification, indicating that the country is bracing for volatile weather conditions characterized by a severe heatwave and locally intense thunderstorms. This weather pattern is expected to persist from today, Monday, until Wednesday, affecting several provinces across the nation.
According to the meteorological agency, temperatures are anticipated to soar between 42 to 46 degrees Celsius starting today and lasting through Wednesday in regions such as Tata, Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd. Additionally, areas including Chtouka-Ait Baha, Guelmim, Laayoune, Taroudant, Tantan, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, and Tarfaya will experience high temperatures ranging from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius today and tomorrow.
Furthermore, many regions in the interior and central northern plains, including Marrakech, Sidi Slimane, Kenitra, Khouribga, Settat, Beni Mellal, and others, will also see temperatures within the same range of 38 to 42 degrees Celsius throughout today. Besides the high temperatures, the agency has issued warnings for additional weather fluctuations, including locally strong thunderstorms that may bring rainfall amounts between 25 and 35 millimeters, along with the possibility of hail and strong wind gusts.
Precautions urged for Citizens
The alert for thunderstorms is set to be in effect today, starting from 2 PM until 11 PM, covering the provinces of Midelt, Khénifra, Ifrane, Fkih Ben Salah, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Figuig, Settat, Azilal, Khouribga, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Qal'at Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, and Boulemane. These climatic developments necessitate heightened caution from citizens, especially for road users and residents in the areas affected by the thunderstorms and heatwave, to mitigate any potential risks.
