The organization Ma Tqich Waldi, which translates to 'Don't Touch My Child', has called for immediate intervention following the disturbing footage of a child being coerced into drinking alcohol in Morocco. The video, which shows adults laughing in the background while the child is urged to drink, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation. The organization is demanding that the recordings be preserved and that strict orders be issued to forensic laboratories within the Judicial Police to identify those involved, ascertain the location where the video was filmed, and facilitate their arrest.
Legal Reforms and Accountability for Child Exploitation
In a strong statement, the organization emphasized that “this act must not go unpunished. Therefore, we demand that justice apply the harshest penalties as outlined in the Penal Code against anyone proven to have endangered the life of a minor or committed acts of aggression against them, serving as a deterrent to those who might seek to exploit children.” The organization pointed out that the child was specifically encouraged to consume alcohol, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Furthermore, the organization underscored the critical need to conclusively reform the Family Code and the penal system, advocating for the adoption of “clear legal mechanisms that criminalize the digital exploitation of minors and strengthen legal guardianship to protect them from negligence or abuse by family members.” They asserted that the forced consumption of alcohol and the ridicule that accompanied it constitutes maltreatment of the child.
They also highlighted the importance of activating reporting channels, enhancing the digital responsibility of citizens, and increasing oversight by relevant authorities regarding content that targets or exploits children on social media platforms. The organization concluded with a poignant statement: “The protection of our children is a red line, and the rule of law in the Kingdom of Morocco serves as a robust barrier against anyone attempting to undermine the innocence of childhood.”
