Significant Growth in Air Traffic in Morocco
The National Airports Office (ONDA) has released impressive figures indicating that Moroccan airports welcomed a total of 22,282,997 passengers during the first seven months of 2026. This represents an increase of 8.77% compared to the same period in 2025. The statistics reflect a robust recovery in air travel, particularly in international flights, which saw a remarkable rise of 8.82%, accommodating 19,894,489 travelers. Domestic air travel also experienced a positive trend, with a growth of 8.36%, translating to 2,388,508 passengers.
Among the busiest airports, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca led the way, serving 6,953,695 passengers, followed closely by Marrakech-Menara with 6,407,303 passengers. Other notable airports included Agadir-Al Massira, which recorded 2,179,857 travelers, Tangier Ibn Battouta with 1,711,764 passengers, and Rabat-Salé Airport welcoming 1,446,355 passengers.
International and Domestic Travel Trends
The surge in international passenger traffic can be attributed primarily to the strong performance of the European market, which continues to be the largest source of travelers, contributing over 16 million passengers and showing a growth rate of 9.29% year-on-year. Additionally, the South American and North American markets exhibited robust growth rates of 34.21% and 14.54%, respectively, bringing in 62,880 and 581,297 passengers. African travel also rose significantly by 13.74%, with 1,175,674 passengers recorded, while travel from Maghreb countries increased by 10.06%, totaling 295,188 passengers.
On the other hand, air traffic to the Middle East and the Far East experienced a slight decline of 4.12%, amounting to 1,238,443 travelers. Overall, Moroccan airports reported 164,164 aircraft movements by the end of July 2026, reflecting an increase of 9.82% compared to the previous year. Mohammed V Airport again led in this area with 55,223 movements, followed by Marrakech-Menara with 42,028 movements and Agadir-Al Massira with 15,009 movements.
Air freight also saw promising growth, with a total of 66,980.55 tons of cargo handled during the first seven months of the year, marking a notable increase of 12.61% compared to the same timeframe in 2025. In July 2026 alone, Moroccan airports welcomed approximately 3,450,846 passengers, highlighting the continued recovery and growing demand for air travel in the region.
