PAM Emerges Victorious in Moroccan Legislative Elections

In a notable outcome from the recent legislative elections in Morocco, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) has secured a leading position by winning 97 seats, according to preliminary results announced by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior. The Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, provided insights into the results, indicating that the National Rally of Independents (RNI) came in second with 66 seats, followed closely by the Independence Party with 65. The Justice and Development Party managed to secure 54 seats, while the Popular Movement obtained 29 seats. The Socialist Union of Popular Forces followed with 26 seats, and the Progress and Socialism Party garnered 19 seats. Additionally, the Constitutional Union captured 17 seats, with the Democratic Social Movement and the Left Alliance each securing 8 seats. Smaller parties like the Democratic Forces Front and the Ensaf Party obtained 2 seats each, while the New Democrats and the Unity and Democracy Party each won 1 seat.

Minister Laftit also highlighted that the national voter turnout was recorded at 38.08%, which translates to approximately 6 million voters. This figure marks a decline in participation compared to previous elections, with turnout rates of 50.86% in 2021 and 42.27% in 2016, indicating a growing concern regarding voter engagement in the democratic process.
