Achievements of the Morocco Challenge 2026
After months of meticulous preparation, fundraising, and personal challenges, the 42 participants of the Foundation Santé's Morocco Challenge 2026 successfully reached their goals by climbing Mount Toubkal, raising an impressive $170,000 to benefit healthcare in Haut-Richelieu. This remarkable journey unfolded over six days, during which the participants trekked a total of 50 kilometers through the breathtaking valleys and mountains of Morocco, culminating in the ascent of North Africa's highest peak, Mount Toubkal, which stands at an elevation of 4,167 meters.
Before embarking on their adventure to Morocco, each participant was tasked with raising a minimum of $3,000 through various fundraising efforts. The collective enthusiasm and determination of the group resulted in exceeding their target, amassing $170,000 for the Foundation Santé. Julie Coupal, the General Director of the Foundation Santé, expressed her satisfaction with the event's success and is already in the process of planning the next edition. "The primary goal was to raise funds for the Foundation. However, the experience evolved into something much more profound... It became a truly human journey where we formed connections with individuals we had never met before," she remarked in an interview.
Ten Days in Morocco
The trip to Morocco spanned a total of ten days, with six of those dedicated to hiking and the ascent of Mount Toubkal. Participants were deeply impacted by the stunning landscapes and the opportunity to immerse themselves in Berber culture, as noted by Julie Coupal. Beyond the physical challenge of the climb, participants encountered various hurdles, including the rustic nature of their accommodations, snowy conditions in the mountains, and the effects of altitude. "Adapting to the altitude was a new experience for most participants," mentioned the General Director of Foundation Santé.
To cater to different walking paces, various groups were formed among the participants, which included hikers ranging from their early twenties to their sixties. Some participants signed up individually, while others came as friends or couples. In the end, they all united in their shared goal of giving their best effort, as underscored by the director.
The initiative represented a new fundraising approach for Foundation Santé. Julie Coupal and her team are already working on preparations for the next edition of the challenge, given the success of this inaugural event. Although the next destination has not yet been determined, the General Director assures that it will be different from the previous one, while maintaining the core idea of undertaking a physical and mental challenge.
No specific destination has been chosen for the upcoming journey yet, and climbing a mountain is not a prerequisite for selecting the next location; it could involve a challenging or longer hike, for example.
