Patrice Carteron Leads His First Training Session with Wydad Casablanca

Patrice Carteron Takes Charge of Wydad Casablanca Training

In a significant development for Wydad Casablanca, French coach Patrice Carteron conducted his inaugural training session on March 25, 2026, following his recent appointment. This session marks a new chapter for the team as they prepare for the remainder of the season. Notably, the training saw the absence of several key players, including Mehdi Benabid, who is currently with the national senior team, and Naïm Byar, representing the U23 squad. Additionally, Ramiro Vaca and Moisés Paniagua were called up to join the Bolivian national team, while Abdelali Mhamdi missed the session due to injury. However, Zouhair Moutaraji made a return, adding depth to the squad.

Carteron’s appointment came in the wake of Mohamed Amine Benhachem’s departure after the team's exit from the CAF Cup quarter-finals against Olympique de Safi. The new coach brings a wealth of experience, having previously triumphed in the African Champions League with TP Mazembe in 2015, as well as securing the African Super Cup with both Raja Casablanca and Zamalek SC. Moreover, he has claimed the Egyptian league title while coaching Al Ahly, alongside extensive coaching stints in the Gulf region, particularly in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Currently, Wydad stands in second place in the Botola Pro Inwi standings with 29 points, albeit with three matches in hand, setting the stage for a competitive finish to the season.
