Pedro Sánchez Addresses Migrant Crisis and External Manipulation
In a recent statement, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez refuted any claims of Moroccan responsibility for the surge of migrants attempting to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. According to findings from the European Union's external action service, Sánchez highlighted that misinformation has been propagated by both Russia and Israel regarding this issue. He confirmed that Moroccan authorities are not to blame for the influx of migrants from Moroccan territory into Ceuta, particularly noted during the late July period.
Sánchez elaborated further, indicating that both countries appear to be leveraging the migrant crisis to criticize the Spanish government, stemming from disagreements over Madrid's stances on the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. In an interview with Cadena SER radio, Sánchez stated, "We will continue to investigate what transpired," while dismissing any allegations of Moroccan involvement. He emphasized that no intelligence agency that collaborates with the Spanish government has suggested or even hinted at any responsibility on the part of Moroccan authorities.
The Prime Minister urged a cooperative approach to resolving the crisis, arguing that distrust towards Morocco would not lead to effective solutions. He also noted that the current understanding of the situation involves the misrepresentation of a Supreme Court ruling issued on July 8, which has been distorted on social media through rumors and misleading information, as well as by criminal organizations involved in human trafficking.
