PJD Demands Transparency in Camping Program Allocation
Salwa Al-Bardai, a member of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) parliamentary group, has formally requested the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication to disclose the criteria and regulations governing the distribution of camping program slots and centers among benefiting associations and institutions. In her written inquiry directed to the Minister, Al-Bardai raised concerns regarding reports suggesting that public institutions and social welfare associations are receiving access to public camping centers, including locations in Ashtihat and Aklou, despite their financial and organizational capabilities allowing them to conduct their own camps. This situation, she argues, limits opportunities for many educational associations that serve children from underprivileged neighborhoods and rural areas, prompting her to seek clarification on the reasoning behind this allocation and the ministry's criteria for selecting beneficiaries.
Moreover, Al-Bardai has called for the publication of complete lists of beneficiary associations and institutions, along with the number of slots allocated to each region, reinforcing the principles of transparency and accountability. She has also questioned the measures the ministry plans to implement to ensure that the national camping program is directed towards its intended target groups, emphasizing the need to safeguard this social initiative from practices that could compromise equal opportunity or deny children from low-income families their right to participate in summer camps. Al-Bardai reiterated that the national camping program is a vital social and educational initiative aimed at enabling children, particularly those from low-income households, to benefit from camping, recreational, and educational spaces, thereby promoting social justice and equal opportunities.
