Celebrating Poetry in the Heart of Rissani
On July 17 and 18, 2026, the House of Poetry in Marrakech is set to host a remarkable cultural and poetic event as part of the sixth edition of "Poetic Integrity." This year's festivities will take place in the historic city of Rissani, located in southeastern Morocco, near the revered shrine of Moulay Ali Sharif and the towering date palms of Tafilalet. Rissani is a city steeped in history, once a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and interaction. The event is poised to be a significant gathering of poets and scholars, celebrating the rich literary heritage of the region.
A Convergence of Voices and Ideas
The first day of the event will feature a dialogue forum on the topic "Questions of Poetic Text in the Moroccan Diwan of Malhun," held on Friday, July 17, at the Cultural Center of Rissani at 7:30 PM. Renowned researchers such as Said Karimi, Alawi Ben Al-Shad, and Abdelatif Khoussi will participate, engaging in discussions that explore the intricacies and nuances of poetic texts within the Malhun tradition. Complementing this intellectual endeavor, the artistic segment of the program will be presented by the Rissani Association for Music and Popular Arts, showcasing the vibrant cultural expressions inherent in the region's folklore and musical heritage.
The second day, Saturday, July 18, will continue the festivities with a poetry gathering at 8 PM, part of the House of Poetry in Marrakech’s "Gardens of the Alphabet" program, which will take place in the scenic area of the "Manzeh Foundation Garden." This location, opposite the historic Palace of Ouled Abdelhalim, which dates back to the Marinid period, will serve as a picturesque backdrop for the poetic presentations. Esteemed poets Abdul Rahim Silili, Fatima Al-Maizi, and Hamza Al-Shafii will share their works, with poet Mariam Itjou presiding over the event. The evening will also feature a special performance by the singer Abdelali Al-Ansari. Additionally, there will be a dedicated segment for book signings, highlighting the recent releases of poet and writer Abdul Rahim Silili, along with the poetry and criticism publications from the House of Poetry in Marrakech.
