Police Arrest Impersonator in Electric Scooter Theft Case

According to reports from Hespress, law enforcement officials in the city of El Jadida have arrested an individual on Wednesday, who is suspected of impersonating a legally regulated profession, as well as fraud and the theft of electric scooters from citizens. This individual allegedly posed as a police officer to execute his scheme.

Sources indicate that the suspect was already wanted on a national level by various law enforcement agencies in different cities, due to multiple complaints from citizens claiming that their electric scooters had been fraudulently stolen by someone pretending to be a police officer. The situation escalated as more victims came forward, detailing their experiences.

According to the same sources, the arrested individual wore clothing resembling that of police uniforms, creating an illusion of authority to deceive his victims before seizing their scooters and evading capture. Law enforcement officials set up a meticulous sting operation in the cities of Oum Er-Rbia and El Jadida, which ultimately led to the suspect's apprehension while he was driving a utility vehicle.

Upon searching the utility vehicle, authorities discovered clothing similar to police attire, including shoes, a hat, and a uniform, prompting them to place the suspect under provisional detention and subject him to preliminary investigation. Additionally, they notified other relevant police precincts regarding the citizens' complaints to facilitate further coordination and investigation into the reported thefts.
