According to sources from Hespress, the judicial police in the city of El Jadida successfully referred an individual to the competent public prosecutor's office on Wednesday. This individual is suspected of impersonating a legal authority, as well as committing fraud and stealing electric scooters (trottinettes) from citizens.
The same sources revealed that the suspect was already wanted on a national level by security services in other cities. His arrest followed a series of complaints from citizens detailing how their electric scooters were fraudulently stolen by an individual posing as a police officer.
Further information from the publication indicated that the arrested person wore a uniform similar to that of the police, deceiving his victims into believing he was conducting an official inspection before seizing their scooters and disappearing. Law enforcement officials set up a sting operation in both Oum Er-Rbia and El Jadida, which led to the suspect's capture while he was driving a commercial vehicle.
A search of the vehicle uncovered police-like clothing, including a pair of shoes, a hat, and a uniform, resulting in the suspect being placed in police custody for preliminary investigations. Additionally, the relevant police stations were informed of the citizen complaints to coordinate and continue investigations regarding the filed reports.
