Police Intensify Patrols to Combat Shoplifting

In a determined effort to curb shoplifting incidents in Bolzano, local law enforcement agencies, including the State Police and Carabinieri, have ramped up their monitoring activities in the city. Under the direction of Questore Giuseppe Ferrari, these forces conducted a series of thorough inspections in various shopping areas over the past two days. A significant focus was placed on the Walter Park shopping center, where multiple thefts were reported.

On Monday, authorities apprehended a group of five asylum seekers, aged between 19 and 36, who were caught stealing food items. The individuals, already having prior convictions, are now facing legal repercussions for their actions. In a separate incident, two Moroccan men, aged 37 and 24, were also detained for stealing alcohol and food products. Their criminal records further complicate their situations.

Continuing the crackdown, on Tuesday, a 31-year-old Moroccan was caught pilfering alcohol from the same supermarket. This individual was reported to be residing in the country without a valid residence permit and is expected to be deported shortly. Additionally, on the same day, the migration office in Bolzano reviewed the case of a 50-year-old Senegalese man, who was found to have multiple prior offenses and was living in Italy illegally. Following directives from the Questore, this man was transferred to a deportation center in Palazzo San Gervasio, Potenza, from where he will be sent back to his home country.

Moreover, during the operations on Tuesday evening, police apprehended a 27-year-old Senegalese man at Verdiplatz with approximately ten grams of hashish, leading to charges of drug trafficking against him. The financial police's canine unit also discovered another ten grams of narcotics in a nearby area. Across the two-day period of increased surveillance, authorities identified 140 individuals, inspected 14 vehicles, and issued citations to three people for violating municipal residence bans.
