The Marrakech judicial police, in collaboration with the General Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance, successfully apprehended a 23-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman on the evening of Friday, August 14th. They are suspected of being involved in a case related to the possession and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances. The female suspect was arrested in the city of Essaouira as she disembarked from a passenger bus. A subsequent search led to the seizure of an impressive haul of 3,690 ecstasy pills, 11 kilograms of hashish, and 120 grams of cocaine.
Further investigations identified another individual believed to be connected to this criminal activity, resulting in his arrest in Essaouira as well. He was found in possession of a substantial sum of money, suspected to be proceeds from the drug trade. Both suspects are currently undergoing judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, aimed at uncovering all circumstances surrounding the case and identifying any potential connections to broader criminal networks.
In related news, authorities in Fnideq have detained 148 individuals suspected of attempting irregular migration, while there has been no evidence of mass breaches towards Ceuta. In Agadir, law enforcement confiscated 7,300 ecstasy pills believed to have originated from Europe. The crackdown on the distribution of psychotropic substances continues, with over 7,000 'Rivotril' pills seized in the region of Inzikan. Moreover, French nationals of Moroccan descent have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in a fatal assault case, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing law enforcement in combatting drug-related crimes.
