Severe Sentencing for Police Officer in Marrakech
The Criminal Chamber of the Marrakech Court of Appeal has recently concluded a significant case involving the sexual assault of a minor, resulting in a six-year prison sentence for a police officer holding the rank of "Moqaddem". This ruling highlights the judicial system's commitment to addressing serious crimes against minors with the utmost severity.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court mandated that the convicted officer pay a civil compensation of 60,000 dirhams to the plaintiff on behalf of the minor victim. The court's decision also included directives for the destruction of materials related to the offense and the return of confiscated mobile phones to their rightful owners after the deletion of incriminating conversations and images.
The incident dates back to the evening of August 28, when the police apprehended the officer, who was part of the traffic division, following a complaint lodged by the father of a 16-year-old boy. The father had grown suspicious of the relationship between his son and the police officer after discovering inappropriate messages exchanged through WhatsApp.
This led to an investigation overseen by the public prosecutor, resulting in the officer's detention and subsequent referral to the local prison. Forensic analysis of his phone revealed explicit conversations between him and the minor, solidifying the evidence against him.
Following the completion of the investigation and the transfer of the case to the Criminal Chamber, the final ruling was issued, imposing a substantial prison sentence along with financial restitution to the victim. Concurrently, the General Directorate of National Security took immediate action by suspending the officer from duty, reinforcing their commitment to uphold the law and ensuring that any employee implicated in criminal activities faces appropriate consequences.
