Police Operation in Marrakech Targets Illegal Activities Linked to Online Advertisements

Field Surveillance Precedes Apartment Raid

The operation carried out by the Urban Crime Investigation Unit of the Judicial Police in the Gueliz area of Marrakech commenced with a series of online advertisements posted by the platform known as Afri Baba. This significant police intervention took place in the early hours of Tuesday, July 14, 2026, targeting a residential apartment located within the Najd complex in the Mabrouka neighborhood. According to various local sources, the police action was prompted by suspicions surrounding the nature of the advertisements, which were believed to be aimed at attracting individuals to the apartment for illicit activities.

This led the security forces to conduct field surveillance to ascertain the activities occurring within the premises before executing the raid and apprehending the individuals present in the apartment. The operation resulted in the arrest of five young women, along with the apartment’s owner, bringing the total number of individuals under investigation to six, according to corroborated local accounts regarding the timing and location of the operation.

It is crucial to note that the mere presence of individuals in the apartment does not automatically imply guilt regarding the alleged activities, as criminal responsibility remains individual and will depend on the outcomes of ongoing investigations and the evidence presented to the public prosecution and judiciary.

Seized Items Include Phones and Medical Supplies

The search of the apartment yielded a collection of mobile phones and a number of medical supplies, which investigators suspect are linked to the illicit activities under investigation. The phones are expected to undergo technical examination, following legal procedures and directives from the public prosecution, to review their contents, including calls made and received, and determine their connection to the advertisements that led to the identification of the apartment's location.

Digital forensic analysis may reveal the individuals responsible for posting the advertisements, responding to inquiries, and setting appointments, as well as whether the activities were confined solely to the raided apartment or extended to other locations and individuals. However, the presence of phones or medical supplies alone does not constitute irrefutable evidence of wrongdoing but is part of a broader set of factors that need to be analyzed in conjunction with records, statements, and observations made by investigators.

The public prosecution holds the authority to assess the findings of the investigation and determine whether the evidence collected is sufficient to pursue legal action, in addition to deciding the appropriate legal classification applicable to each individual involved.
