The announcement was made during a gathering at Abou's residence in Fez, which was attended by Fawzi Lekjaa, a member of the political bureau of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, alongside several party officials, marking the official introduction of the new member.
Mohamed Abou boasts a long-standing political career that dates back to 1997, having served as a representative for the Taounate region in the National Assembly. He held the position of head of the parliamentary group for the National Rally of Independents from 2002 to 2007 and also served as the vice president of the National Assembly, in addition to being a member of the party's political bureau. His government experience began in 2007 when he was appointed as the minister delegate to the prime minister responsible for modernizing public sectors in Abbas El Fassi's government. He returned to a ministerial role in 2013, focusing on foreign trade under Abdelilah Benkirane's administration.
In addition to his national engagement, Abou has accumulated extensive experience in local governance, having presided over the municipal council of Beni Walid in the Taounate region for several years. He is also an academic, serving as a professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Fez. Abou's recruitment appears to be a strategic move aligned with the momentum that the Authenticity and Modernity Party has been building in the region, which has previously seen the addition of local parliamentarians, such as Nourddine Qchibel from the Al Qarya Gafsai constituency and Bouchaib Bouzouf from the Taounate Tissa constituency.
