Feijóo Calls for Accountability Over Moroccan Invasion
The President of the Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has leveled serious accusations against the government of Pedro Sánchez, claiming that it was aware of and had information regarding a planned invasion before it occurred. In a strong statement, Feijóo criticized Morocco, demanding that both the Moroccan ambassador in Madrid and the Spanish ambassador in Rabat be summoned for consultations. This outburst comes in the wake of a police report revealing that the invasion was allegedly orchestrated by Morocco.
Feijóo asserted that the operation originated from Morocco, was sanctioned by the Moroccan authorities, and appeared to be coordinated by them as well. During his third visit to Ceuta, he emphasized that the judicial responsibilities of the government would not go unpunished, as the PP is committed to defending the dignity of Spain and its citizens, having already involved itself in the investigation led by the National Court.
The PP leader further pointed to the Sánchez administration, accusing it of being complicit in the cover-up. "They have lied to the Spanish people," he stated, underscoring that warnings were issued but ignored by everyone from the president down to the last of his ministers, directing specific ire towards Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
Feijóo raised questions about the credibility of the government's actions, asking, "What kind of thinking leads the Minister of the Interior to communicate with his subordinates by letter?" He added, "How can one undermine the Police and the National Intelligence Center (CNI), publicly questioning the security apparatus of a nation and leaving it vulnerable in front of the world?" He pointed fingers at Sánchez for allowing such circumstances to arise.
Alongside Ceuta's President, Juan Jesús Vivas, Feijóo made it clear that it is evident the government, starting with Pedro Sánchez, is incapable of safeguarding the nation's security. He stressed that protecting the nation is the most crucial obligation of any president, stating, "The only solution is to call for elections and restore the voice of the people."
In a rallying cry to the citizens, the PP leader urged them to mobilize this evening in Ceuta, promising that the nation would unite in solidarity to support a suffering community. Feijóo plans to attend the protest organized at Madrid's City Hall in Cibeles, despite obstacles from the government delegation. Earlier today, both PP and Vox gathered in front of the European Parliament as a show of support.
Vivas likewise called on Spaniards to participate in protests scheduled at town halls across the country this afternoon, appealing for political unity to confront the current situation. "Ceuta is defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all of Spain," he declared.
