PPS Secures Limited Seats in Recent Elections
The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) has managed to secure a total of 19 seats in the 2026 parliamentary elections, which is a significant drop from their previous performance. This election outcome has distributed the seats among local and regional constituencies, with the party obtaining 10 seats in local districts and 9 in regional districts specifically reserved for women. This result has led to disappointment within the party, which had set an ambitious target of at least 50 seats.
Among the successful candidates from the PPS are Rashid Hamouni in the Boulemane district, Mariam Wahsa in the Béni Mellal region, and Ahmed Al-Abadi in Taza. Other notable victories include Abdul Ilah Al-Idrissi in Taounate-Tissa, Amin Bezzid in El Jadida, and Fouad Karim in Khmissat and Al-Mas. The party also celebrated victories in local districts with candidates such as Othman Al-Mersi in Essaouira and Abdul Khaliq Bysent in Larache.
In the regional districts, the party's female candidates have performed notably, with Mariam Al-Kanouni winning a seat in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudi in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumia Mansaf Haji in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. Other successful candidates include Hanan Al-Soufi in the East region and Fatima Asweidi in Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, alongside several others across different regions.
The 2026 election results reflect a decline in the political fortunes of the PPS, which had previously secured 22 seats in the elections held on September 8, 2021. The party's inability to meet its electoral expectations has raised questions regarding its strategic direction and future political prospects.
