PPS Unveils Candidates for the 2026 Legislative Elections

The Progressive and Socialist Party (PPS) announced its candidate list for the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026, covering 80 local districts. This list notably features electoral figures that the party has historically relied upon to secure parliamentary seats. However, there was no indication of the party's commitment to inclusivity regarding women and young candidates. The disclosed candidate list, revealed during the eighth session of the party's central committee, includes only six women and eight individuals under the age of 35, highlighting a concerning lack of diversity within the party's electoral strategy.

Among the notable candidates is Rahou Helia, who returns to the party after previously running under the banner of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the last elections; he has been endorsed to represent the Tiflet-Romani district. Additionally, former Socialist Union leader Abdelhadi Khairat has joined the party and received backing to run in Settat.

In the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, the PPS has nominated Dhaman Al-Mazriahi in the Tangier-Assila district, Idris Lazaar in the Mdiq-Fnideq district, Zouhair Rokani for Tetouan, Mohamed Boudra for Chefchaouen, Abd Rabbu Al-Bakhsh for Wazan, and Lamia Salali for Al Hoceima. In the eastern region, the list includes Wafa Al-Taji in the Oujda-Angad district, Mohamed Belkassem in the Nador district, Adnan Oushan in the Driouch district, Fatima Zahra Al-Mahi in the Berkane district, Mohamed Mihit in the Taourirt district, Mohammed Filali in the Jerada district, and Hussein Ahlis in the Figuig-Bouarfa district.

In the Fez-Meknes region, Ali Al-Qasb has been chosen as the party's candidate in southern Fez, while Mohamed Bakhtawi will represent Meknes, and Mohamed Msaou will contest in Ifrane. Other candidates include Badr Bensada in Sefrou, Rachid Hamouni in Boulemane, Abdullah Al-Idrisi Al-Bouzidi in Taounate-Tissa, Ikram Al-Hanawi in Al-Qaria-Ghafsai, and Ahmed Al-Abadi in Taza.

In the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, the party has nominated Rachid Sassi in the Rabat Al-Muhit district, and other candidates include Al-Arabi Al-Hamari in the Skhirat-Témara district, Nour Al-Din Harraq in Kénitra, Fouad Karim in Khmissat-Walmas, and Rahou Helia in Tiflet-Romani. In the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, the party has renewed its confidence in Maryam Ouahsa in the Béni Mellal district, Boubker Ikken in Azilal, Hamza Nadhiri in Bzou and Ouzguit, and Alal Al-Basrawi in Khouribga.

In the Casablanca-Settat region, the PPS has confirmed the candidacy of Mohamed Benmoussa in the Casablanca-Anfa district, Mohamed Talal in Ain Chock, Mustafa Al-Hissouni in Sidi Bernoussi, Al-Haj Haji in Ben M'sik, Adil Benbrahim in Mohammedia, Ayman Bayazid in El Jadida, Rachid Boutalib in Nouaceur, Mustafa Al-Maanawi in Mediouna, Ahmed Al-Dahi in Ben Slimane, and Abdelhadi Khairat in Settat.

In the Marrakech-Safi region, the PPS candidate list includes Youssef Himi in Marrakech-Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, Ibrahim Babisi in Gueliz-Al Nakhil, Abdel Nabi Chadi in Menara, Hamid Qamiza in Chichaoua, Othman Al-Marsi in Essaouira, Abdel Ilah Battouti in Al-Rhamna, Abdel Razak Abid in Safi, and Khalid Al-Muazzaz in Qal'at al-Sraghna.

Regarding the Drâa-Tafilalet region, the party has nominated Said Aqdad in the Ouarzazate district, Omar Ait Raho in the Midelt district, Mohamed Qasha in Tinghir, and Youssef Yassin in the Zagora district.

Lastly, in the Souss-Massa region, the PPS has put forward Hassan Oumribit in the Agadir Ida Ou Tanane district, Mohamed Al-Zakrawi in the Inzegane-Ait Melloul district, Soufiane Izem in the Chtouka Ait Baha district, Jamal Asaeed in the southern Taroudant district, Al-Hassan Ait Dawood in the northern Taroudant district, and Khadija Arouhal in the Tiznit district. In the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, the party has nominated Hussein Atouil in the Guelmim district, Aba Al-Sheikh Al-Nih in the Tan Tan district, and Karim Oboghrim in the Sidi Ifni district.
