PPS Takes Disciplinary Action Against Fez Leader
The Political Bureau of the Progressive and Socialist Party (PPS) has made a significant decision to suspend the membership of Mohammed Al-Khattab, the Deputy Mayor of Fez and a member of the party's central committee. This action follows what the party has termed as "practices that contradict the principles and regulations of the party." The suspension maintains the party's right to pursue legal and organizational procedures as permitted by law.
The party's announcement, which came after a meeting of its political bureau last Tuesday, revealed that the decision was informed by a report concerning the organizational developments of the party's provincial branch in Fez. This report included details about the activities attributed to Mohammed Al-Khattab, prompting the bureau to decide on his suspension.
According to a party source, the decision stemmed from observations of Al-Khattab's involvement in activities supporting the candidate of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) in the southern district of Fez, Aziz Lebbar, who is also a member of the municipal council of Fez. The party leadership viewed this participation as behavior that contradicts the organizational commitments expected from its members.
The Political Bureau underscored that its decision aligns with the values of the party and its organizational culture, especially considering Al-Khattab's standing as a central committee member and an elected representative in the Fez municipal council. Furthermore, the bureau stated its intention to inform the National Committee for Political Monitoring and Arbitration, along with other relevant party bodies, about the suspension in order to enact the necessary organizational consequences.
