Pratt & Whitney Canada Expands Operations in Morocco
On April 22, Pratt & Whitney Canada, a prominent aviation engine manufacturer, inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in the Nouaceur region, situated approximately 130 kilometers south of Rabat. This cutting-edge plant is expected to generate around 200 jobs by the year 2030, significantly contributing to the local economy.
The new facility will specialize in the production of static and structural machined components for the company’s aircraft engines, including the PT6 family of turboprop engines. The Moroccan Ministry of Industry reported the establishment of this plant on its official website, although specific investment details were not disclosed. Spanning an impressive 12,000 square meters, the plant is located within Midparc, a key industrial and aerospace zone in Morocco, which is recognized as one of the country’s primary industrial hubs.
Strategic Investment in Morocco's Aerospace Sector
Pratt & Whitney Canada operates as a subsidiary of the American United Technologies Corporation, which also owns the renowned helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-profile officials, including Morocco's Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and the Minister Delegate for Defense, Abdelatif Loudiyi, alongside Maria Della Posta, the president of Pratt & Whitney Canada.
During the event, Minister Mezzour emphasized that the decision by such a significant player to invest in Morocco reaffirms investors' confidence in the Moroccan industrial platform and its competitiveness. He highlighted that this important project is part of a broader initiative to modernize Morocco's aerospace infrastructure by incorporating cutting-edge, innovative, and technologically demanding activities.
Maria Della Posta noted that Morocco was selected following a comprehensive global evaluation process, which recognized Casablanca as an emerging hub for aerospace companies, including Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX. Additionally, in February, French group Safran signed an agreement to establish a plant in Nouaceur for the production of landing gear for short- and medium-haul aircraft, specifically the Airbus A320 family, with an investment of 280 million euros.
