Pratt & Whitney Unveils State-of-the-Art Facility in Casablanca, Boosting Morocco's Aerospace Industry

Pratt & Whitney's New Factory: A Milestone for Morocco's Aerospace Sector

On April 21, 2026, Pratt & Whitney proudly inaugurated its advanced manufacturing facility in Casablanca, marking a significant step in the development of Morocco’s aerospace industry. This modern plant, which occupies a sprawling 27,871 square meters with 12,000 square meters dedicated to the manufacturing building alone, represents an investment of $76 million, with 25% of the funding provided by the Moroccan government, as explained by Laurent Bouyer, the Vice President of Operations for Pratt & Whitney Canada. The establishment of this factory is not just a testament to the company's growth but also a strategic move to meet the increasing global demand for high-precision aircraft engine components, a technological domain that has historically been dominated by a select few industrial powers.

During the inauguration, Bouyer emphasized the pressing need for capacity expansion in response to the soaring demand for various types of aircraft engines, from helicopters to business jets and commercial aviation. He articulated the strategic decision to set up operations in Morocco after conducting a global comparison of potential locations, ultimately choosing Casablanca as the ideal site for building an ecosystem and industry focused on aircraft engine component manufacturing. This decision underscores Morocco’s competitive advantages, including an existing industrial base and a growing pool of skilled talent interested in aerospace.

The Role of Education and Local Partnerships

According to Bouyer, the collaboration with local partners has been instrumental in this venture. Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of the RTX group, has been operational in Morocco since 2012, establishing a foundation for the aerospace ecosystem. Additionally, the presence of several training institutes, particularly the Institute of Aeronautical Professions (IMA), which has significantly contributed to workforce development, is a cornerstone of Pratt & Whitney’s strategy. The collaboration with IMA is already yielding results, as the company prepares to employ a third cohort of highly-trained professionals for their Casablanca facility.

Bianca Fontaine, President of Pratt & Whitney Morocco, highlighted the exceptional skills of the employees recruited thus far, emphasizing that while the engines produced may be smaller, they are high-performing, necessitating precision manufacturing. The factory boasts cutting-edge production technologies imported from leading industrial nations, ensuring that the quality of components produced in Morocco meets international standards. With plans to launch approximately 55 types of engine parts, the facility aims to ramp up production capacity to over 6,400 parts annually by 2030.
