Strengthening Healthcare Cooperation Between Morocco and Kenya
In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare collaboration, Princess Lalla Asmaa of Morocco and Rachel Ruto, Kenya's First Lady, visited children who have received cochlear implants in Rabat. This visit, part of a broader cooperation initiative between Morocco and Kenya, underscores the commitment to assist individuals suffering from profound hearing loss.
The event took place at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital, where the two dignitaries interacted with young patients benefiting from the fourth phase of the "United, We Understand Each Other Better" program. This initiative, launched under Morocco's national "NASMAA" campaign by Princess Lalla Asmaa, aims to provide cochlear implants to children in need. In its latest phase, the program has successfully delivered cochlear implants to 100 Kenyan children with significant hearing impairments, facilitated surgeries for 70 children in Kenya, and provided treatment for an additional 30 children in Morocco.
Through the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, Morocco has expanded its cochlear implant programs to reach children in various regions, including Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. This initiative is not just about providing medical care; it also emphasizes the transfer of medical expertise and skills among partner countries, furthering Morocco's commitment to South-South cooperation.
Domestically, the Lalla Asmaa Foundation continues to implement the "NASMAA" campaign, which provides free cochlear implants to Moroccan patients. Remarkably, this initiative has already enabled over 1,050 Moroccan patients to receive these life-changing implants, surpassing its original goal of 1,000 beneficiaries.
The hospital visit marked a key moment during Rachel Ruto's working trip to Morocco, which commenced on September 14. This visit is aimed at reinforcing the bilateral relations between the two nations. Later in the day, Princess Lalla Asmaa hosted a luncheon at the Royal Guest Palace in Rabat in honor of Kenya's First Lady and her accompanying delegation, fostering further dialogue and collaboration between the two countries.
