New Initiatives for the Hearing Impaired
In a significant demonstration of **King Mohammed VI’s** commitment to the welfare, education, and integration of children with hearing impairments, **Princess Lalla Asmaa** inaugurated an innovative hearing aid initiative during her visit to the Specialty Hospital in Rabat. Upon her arrival, she was greeted with honors from a contingent of Auxiliary Forces and welcomed by various dignitaries, including the Minister of Health, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, and representatives from regional governance and international diplomacy. This occasion underscored the collaboration between government bodies and international partners in addressing the needs of hearing-impaired children.
During her visit, **Princess Lalla Asmaa** interacted with Moroccan and Palestinian children, as well as others from various African nations, who had recently undergone cochlear implant surgeries. A total of 56 children, along with their families, were brought to Rabat as part of the initiative titled 'United, We Hear Better'. The Princess was briefed on the innovative bone-anchored hearing technology employed for children where traditional cochlear implants may not suffice, highlighting the hospital's commitment to providing comprehensive care.
Launch of the Hearing Aid Program
The Princess continued her visit at the **Lalla Asmaa Foundation**, where she explored recreational activities designed for implanted children and attended a presentation on the crucial roles of speech therapy and parental guidance in the developmental process of children with hearing impairments. It was emphasized that daily maintenance of the external cochlear implant device is vital for the child’s auditory experience. Additionally, she visited the cochlear implant adjustment room, which accommodates over 100 children under the 'NASMAA' program, featuring the newly developed 'ConnectCare' system. This technology allows for remote adjustments in real-time, ensuring optimal device performance.
In line with these advancements, the Foundation has also introduced a remote speech therapy application, facilitating consistent therapy sessions which are essential for effective language acquisition. The highlight of the event was the launch of the unprecedented national program 'Hearing Aids for All', aimed at providing free and accessible hearing aids to underprivileged Moroccans. This initiative reflects the vision of **King Mohammed VI**, promoting societal equality and extending the Foundation's mission beyond cochlear implants to encompass all forms of hearing loss.
Subsequently, **Princess Lalla Asmaa** presided over the signing of five cooperation agreements designed to enhance access to auditory equipment nationwide. These agreements involved collaborations between the **Lalla Asmaa Foundation** and various governmental and educational institutions, including the Ministry of Solidarity and the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Promotion of Social Works in Education and Training.
Since the inception of the 'NASMAA' program in 2022, the **Lalla Asmaa Foundation** has successfully facilitated cochlear implant surgeries for 950 Moroccan children and 368 children from 22 countries worldwide, demonstrating a commitment to shared progress and international cooperation in the field of children's health.
This initiative embodies the enlightened vision of **King Mohammed VI**, rooted in sharing, innovation, and solidarity, and aims to establish Morocco as a beacon of hope and expertise in pediatric health.
