New Candidates for Upcoming Legislative Elections
The Progress and Socialism Party recently unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The announcement was made on Saturday during the eighth session of the party's central committee. The list notably includes familiar electoral figures that the party has traditionally relied upon to secure parliamentary seats. However, it raises concerns over the party's commitment to inclusivity, as it features only six women and eight young candidates under the age of 35, indicating a potential lack of openness towards empowering women and youth within its ranks.
Key Candidates Across Various Regions
The candidate list reflects some significant returns and new affiliations. Notably, Raho Helial is making a comeback to the party after having previously run under the banner of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the last elections; he has been endorsed for the Tiflet-Ramany district. Additionally, former leader of the Socialist Union, Abdelhadi Khairat, has joined the party and received endorsement to run in Settat. In the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, candidates include Dahmane Mazrihi for the Tangier-Assila district, Idriss Lazaar for the M'diq-Fnideq district, and several others across various districts. Furthermore, in the eastern region, the party has nominated Wafa Tijee for the Oujda-Angad district and several others throughout the region.
In the Fes-Meknes area, Ali Lakassab has been selected to lead the party's list in Southern Fes, while other candidates span across multiple districts including Meknes and Ifrane. Moreover, in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, notable nominations include Rashid Sassi and Nour El-Din Harraq. The party has also reposed its trust in Maryam Ouhsasa in the Beni Mellal district and selected several candidates in the Casablanca-Settat area, including Mohammed Benmoussa for the Casablanca-Anfa district. The party continues to assert its presence across diverse regions, with a range of candidates representing various locales.
