One year after the launch of the high-speed rail project connecting Kenitra to Marrakech on April 24, 2025, the National Office of Railways has confirmed that the construction of this strategic project, which spans 430 kilometers, is proceeding according to the established timeline. The official data indicates that the expropriation processes have been nearly completed, with most of the land allocated for the project now freed, which has significantly accelerated the pace of construction.
In terms of civil engineering, work is advancing continuously, with approximately 20 million cubic meters of excavation and backfill completed to date. This progress is accompanied by notable advancements in the construction of technical structures. Currently, 15 major bridges are being built, alongside three covered sections at Casablanca Airport, Waznat, and Ain Atiq, totaling 1.5 kilometers in length. Additionally, 92 facilities, including railway and roadway bridges, have been initiated. The project has also secured around 2.5 million tons of gravel, 800,000 tons of beams, and over 100,000 tons of rails, along with 220 track switching devices, as part of the infrastructure preparation for the rail line.
On a broader scale, this project is part of a massive investment program worth 96 billion dirhams, aimed at fundamentally transforming the railway sector in Morocco. This program allocates 53 billion dirhams for the construction of the high-speed rail infrastructure between Kenitra and Marrakech, alongside an investment of 29 billion dirhams for the acquisition of 168 new trains. Furthermore, 14 billion dirhams are earmarked for the maintenance and modernization of the existing network, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the railway system and supporting the national economy.
