Rapid Rail Project Between Kenitra and Marrakech Progressing on Schedule

As of April 24, 2025, marking one year since the initiation of the high-speed rail project connecting Kenitra and Marrakech, the National Office of Railways has confirmed that the construction of this strategic project, extending over 430 kilometers, is progressing according to the established timeline. This ambitious endeavor aims to revolutionize Morocco's railway sector and significantly enhance transportation efficiency.

According to official data, the land expropriation process has been nearly completed, with most of the designated properties for the project successfully cleared, thereby accelerating the pace of construction. In terms of civil engineering, work is advancing steadily, with approximately 20 million cubic meters of excavation and filling completed to date, alongside notable progress in the construction of various engineering structures.

Currently, the project includes the construction of 15 major bridges, in addition to three covered sections at Casablanca Airport, Zenata, and Ain Atiq, collectively spanning a total length of 1.5 kilometers. Furthermore, a total of 92 facilities are being developed, encompassing both railway and road bridges. The project has also secured around 2.5 million tons of gravel, 800,000 tons of beams, and more than 100,000 tons of rails, along with 220 rail switches, which are essential for equipping the infrastructure of the line.

On a broader scale, this project is part of a massive investment program valued at 96 billion dirhams, aimed at bringing about a transformative change in Morocco's railway sector. This comprehensive program allocates 53 billion dirhams for the construction of the high-speed rail infrastructure between Kenitra and Marrakech, alongside an investment of 29 billion dirhams for the acquisition of 168 new trains. Additionally, 14 billion dirhams are earmarked for the maintenance and modernization of the existing network, all of which will enhance the overall performance of the railway system and support the national economy.
