Progress Report on Morocco's High-Speed Rail Project Linking Kenitra and Marrakech

As of April 24, 2025, marking one year since the launch of the high-speed rail project connecting Kenitra and Marrakech, the National Railway Office has confirmed that the construction of this strategic initiative, which spans 430 kilometers, is progressing according to the established timeline. This ambitious project aims to revolutionize rail transport in Morocco, significantly enhancing connectivity between major cities.

Official data indicates that the expropriation process has been nearly completed, with the majority of land parcels designated for the project now liberated, which has accelerated the pace of construction. In terms of civil engineering, work is advancing steadily, with approximately 20 million cubic meters of excavation and filling completed thus far, alongside notable progress in the construction of various technical structures. Currently, 15 major bridges are being erected, in addition to three covered sections near Casablanca Airport, Zenata, and Ain Atiq, totaling 1.5 kilometers in length. Furthermore, a total of 92 structures, including rail and road bridges, have been initiated.

To support the infrastructure of the high-speed line, around 2.5 million tons of gravel, 800,000 tons of beams, and over 100,000 tons of rails have been supplied, along with 220 rail switch devices. This project is part of a broader investment program amounting to 96 billion dirhams, which aims to bring about a fundamental transformation in Morocco's railway sector.

This comprehensive investment plan allocates 53 billion dirhams specifically for the construction of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail infrastructure, while an additional 29 billion dirhams is earmarked for the acquisition of 168 new trains. Furthermore, 14 billion dirhams will be dedicated to maintaining and modernizing the existing network, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the rail system and bolstering the national economy.
