On April 24, 2025, marking one year since the launch of the high-speed rail project connecting Kenitra and Marrakech, the National Office of Railways confirmed that the construction activities for this strategic initiative, which spans 430 kilometers, are proceeding according to the established timeline commitments. This ambitious project is set to revolutionize rail travel in Morocco, significantly enhancing connectivity between major cities.
According to official data, the land expropriation process has been nearly completed, with the majority of the land parcels designated for the project successfully liberated. This advancement has greatly accelerated the pace of construction activities. In terms of civil engineering, significant progress has been made with approximately 20 million cubic meters of excavation and fill work completed thus far, alongside notable advancements in the construction of essential structures.
Currently, the construction of 15 major bridges is underway, in addition to three covered sections near Casablanca Airport, Zenata, and Ain Atiq, which collectively span a length of 1.5 kilometers. Moreover, the project has initiated the development of 92 facilities, including railway and roadway bridges. To support the infrastructure of the rail line, around 2.5 million tons of gravel, 800,000 tons of beams, and over 100,000 tons of rails have been procured, along with 220 track switching devices.
On a broader scale, this project is part of a massive investment program valued at 96 billion dirhams, aimed at fundamentally transforming the railway sector in Morocco. Within this framework, 53 billion dirhams have been allocated for the construction of the Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed rail infrastructure, alongside an investment of 29 billion dirhams for the acquisition of 168 new trains. Additionally, 14 billion dirhams are earmarked for the maintenance and modernization of the existing network, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the rail system and bolstering the national economy.
