Bank Workers Rally in Support of Dismissed Colleague
In a significant display of solidarity, a protest was organized outside the regional headquarters of the Banque Populaire in Marrakech-Beni Mellal, called by the regional office of the National Union of Popular Credit, which is affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union. The demonstration was a direct response to the unjust dismissal of employee Badr Duh, a decision the union has labeled as arbitrary and unfair. The gathering drew considerable attention from banking workers and several union representatives who voiced their strong opposition to the dismissal, emphasizing their commitment to defending the right to work, preserving the dignity of workers, and respecting labor freedoms within banking institutions.
Union Leaders Express Concerns Over Employment Practices
In an interview with I3lam TV, Abdelhamid Mouqiti, the regional secretary of the National Union of Popular Credit, articulated that the protest was a clear expression of the workers' condemnation of the dismissal of their colleague, Badr Duh. Mouqiti described the decision as "unjust" and a disturbing precedent at the regional level, reflecting what he termed a "haphazard approach to social management." He held the regional president accountable, asserting that they are responsible for the social and managerial conditions within the institution, and expressed bewilderment at a national banking entity resorting to practices that he claimed do not align with labor law provisions and disregard the social circumstances of employees.
Moreover, Mouqiti firmly rejected what he characterized as a culture of "abuse and oppression in dealings," reinforcing that the protest will not be an isolated event. He indicated that the union is prepared to escalate their actions in the coming days, standing firm for truth, dignity, and the rights of workers.
