Outrage Over Public Land Occupation in Taza
The chaotic occupation of public land in the city of Taza has emerged as a pressing issue that deeply concerns both residents and local stakeholders. This rampant exploitation has led to a widespread belief among the occupiers that they operate without fear of repercussions from authorities. Such a mindset has prompted these individuals to encroach upon public spaces, transforming them into sources of illegal profit at the expense of pedestrian safety and the well-being of nearby residents.
Those who observe the current state of public land occupation in Taza are often left in a state of shock due to the overwhelming disorder that characterizes the urban landscape. The local authorities' neglect in addressing these violations has only exacerbated the problem, allowing the consequences of this phenomenon to escalate significantly.
Residents Call for Immediate Action from Authorities
In light of this deteriorating situation, residents of the residential complex in Lirak No. 1, located on Allal El Fassi Street in Taza, have urgently appealed to the Minister of the Interior to issue strict directives to local authorities in Taza. They seek immediate intervention to alleviate their suffering caused by the encroachment of street vendors on the space surrounding their building, aiming to restore order and eliminate the chaos of informal trade.
In a letter of complaint addressed to the Minister of the Interior, the affected residents expressed their grave concerns regarding the alarming extent of public land occupation around their residential complex. They highlighted a catastrophic incident that occurred recently—a massive fire broke out in an informal market selling used furniture on Wednesday, May 27, coinciding regrettably with the celebration of Eid al-Adha. This disaster has resulted in significant material and moral losses for the community, leading residents to reiterate their demands for relief from the harms stemming from this illegal encroachment.
The distressed residents expressed their astonishment in the same letter at what they described as the unjustifiable absence of the provincial governor of Taza, who failed to check on the welfare of those affected by the fire or offer condolences during this challenging time. They also noted with disappointment that the city’s mayor did not take the initiative to visit the fire site to assess the situation of the impacted citizens. However, the residents did find some solace in the proactive response of the president of the Taza municipality, who personally oversaw the firefighting efforts and collaborated with cleaning crews from the Arma company to clear the site of debris that contributed to the disaster.
