Quebec Travelers Choose Morocco for Summer Vacations in 2026

Growing Popularity of Morocco Among Quebec Tourists

A significant number of Quebec residents are opting for Morocco as their summer vacation destination this year, according to new booking data. Recent statistics from FlightHub reveal that Morocco and Tunisia now account for 17% of international bookings made from the province, compared to 15% in the summer of 2025. This shift indicates a growing trend among Quebec travelers who are increasingly seeking sun and an escape from their daily routines, despite the higher costs associated with flights to Casablanca, which average around $1,500, compared to less than $1,000 for flights to Paris.

For the second consecutive summer season, the Montreal-Casablanca route has emerged as the most booked international flight. In a notable change, the United States is no longer the leading travel destination for Quebec residents in 2026, with only 10% making reservations for trips south of the border amidst an ongoing trade dispute with Canada. Economic factors such as inflation and the persistently high price of gasoline—largely due to conflicts in the Middle East—are influencing travel choices, prompting many Quebec families to either stay within the province and travel by car or to fly to international destinations like Morocco.

Travel Trends and Future Projections

A recent survey conducted by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) highlights that Canadians, including Quebec residents, are indeed planning to travel in 2026, with many intending to explore domestic options. The survey, published on May 13, indicates that although 81% of households anticipate making compromises regarding their travel plans, domestic tourism is increasingly seen as a deliberate choice rather than a fallback option. In Quebec, this often translates to shorter trips, with millennials leading the way as the most active travelers this year, representing 33% of international bookings originating from the province.

The tourism sector in Quebec experienced record-breaking success in 2025, welcoming 67 million visitors and generating nearly $19 billion in revenue. Geneviève Cantin, CEO of the Alliance of the Tourism Industry of Quebec, emphasizes that travel has become integral to the lifestyle of Quebec residents, with approximately 93% taking at least one trip annually. Quebec remains the preferred destination for these travelers, with 77% choosing to explore the province at least once in the past year. Cantin believes that the diverse tourism offerings in Quebec cater to a wide range of interests and demographics, whether for outdoor enthusiasts, culture seekers, food lovers, adventure seekers, relaxation aficionados, or urban experience seekers. She is optimistic that 2026 will also bring positive developments for Quebec's tourism industry, noting that signals for bookings are encouraging and expressing confidence in attracting both Canadian and international tourists.
