Rabat Airport's New Terminal Set for Launch
The long-awaited new terminal at Rabat-Salé Airport is finally nearing its operational debut, with expectations for it to commence services by the end of July or early August 2026. This new infrastructure is particularly significant as it is set to facilitate flights to holy sites for Umrah, marking a fresh chapter for travelers departing from Morocco's capital.
As per recent reports from Rue20, the terminal has successfully secured all necessary approvals to begin accommodating both passengers and aircraft, paving the way for a smooth launch. Initial operations are anticipated to kick off around the 1st of August, coinciding with the peak travel period for Umrah pilgrims during the first week of that month.
Originally, the launch had been slated for June, as indicated by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh. However, unforeseen delays have postponed the opening, stirring anticipation among stakeholders and travelers alike. The completion of this terminal is a pivotal component of a broader modernization initiative aimed at enhancing Morocco's airport infrastructure.
This expansion will allow Rabat-Salé Airport to increase its annual passenger capacity to an impressive five million. Currently, the combined capacity of airports across Morocco stands at approximately 40 million passengers per year, with projections indicating that this figure could rise to 80 million by 2030, thanks to the development of Casablanca Airport and expansions at seven other facilities.
Such advancements reflect Morocco's commitment to modernizing its aviation sector, ensuring that it meets international standards and effectively caters to the growing demand for air travel.
