Significant Advancement in Parliamentary Relations

On April 9, 2026, Rabat welcomed the fifth session of the joint parliamentary committee between the House of Representatives of Morocco and the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. This important gathering saw participation from numerous officials and parliamentarians from both sides, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing bilateral relations. The President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, expressed that this session symbolizes a renewed dynamic in parliamentary relations, aimed at fostering multidimensional cooperation between Morocco and Belgium within a framework of privileged political ties.

During his address, Talbi El Alami noted that the international context necessitates dialogue and communication, urging collaborative efforts to uphold values of peace, democracy, and coexistence. He highlighted the significance of both nations as exemplars of stability and cultural diversity. Notably, he pointed out the presence of a substantial Moroccan community in Belgium, particularly within the Wallonia-Brussels region, emphasizing their active participation in political, economic, social, and cultural spheres as a remarkable model of integration and inclusion.

Highlighting the session's focus on 'Artificial Intelligence and Parliamentary Work,' Talbi El Alami stressed the imperative for parliaments to legislate the boundaries and applications of artificial intelligence to ensure that it remains under human oversight while protecting privacy and personal data. He advocated for equitable access to artificial intelligence for all citizens and called upon international parliamentary communities to collaborate in formulating policies and visions regarding the challenges posed by this technology.

Strengthening Ties Between Two Peoples

In his remarks, Benoît Dispa, President of the Wallonia-Brussels Parliament, reaffirmed the role that both the Moroccan and Belgian parliaments play in reinforcing the bonds between their nations and peoples. He articulated that these assemblies provide a platform for citizens' voices and solidify bilateral relations within a vibrant democratic framework. Dispa emphasized the meeting's potential to lay the groundwork for a renewed, regular, and ambitious inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two legislative bodies, reflecting on the historical ties and various facets of their partnership.

This partnership has been further solidified over time, particularly with the recent agreement signed in October 2025 emphasizing cooperation in justice, economic development, and migration. He noted the establishment of the joint committee in 2003 aimed at providing a parliamentary framework for this long-standing relationship, offering legislators a consistent platform for exchange, collaboration, and dialogue. The session included discussions on two main topics: the impact of artificial intelligence on legislative work and the protection of children's rights, showcasing various experiences and approaches to promote children's rights.
