Significant Growth in Air Traffic at Rabat-Salé and Laâyoune Airports
Recent data from the National Office of Airports (ONDA) reveals an impressive surge in passenger activity at both Rabat-Salé and Laâyoune airports during the first seven months of 2026. Rabat-Salé Airport has nearly reached the milestone of 1.5 million passengers, recording a total of 1,446,355 travelers, which marks a remarkable increase of 16.06% compared to the same period last year. This growth is predominantly driven by international traffic, which accounted for 1,329,327 passengers—a rise of 17.73%. National flights have remained stable, showing only a slight decline of 0.03% with 117,028 passengers. Furthermore, the airport witnessed an increase in aircraft movements, totaling 10,296 operations, up 18.36% from the previous year. Notably, July 2026 alone saw 228,781 passengers, reflecting an impressive 23.17% growth compared to July 2025.
Laâyoune Airport Continues to Flourish
To the south, the Hassan I Airport in Laâyoune has also demonstrated robust growth, welcoming 190,416 passengers from January to July 2026, which is an increase of 10.93% compared to the same timeframe in 2025. In July, the airport served 31,414 travelers, a 12.92% increase from the previous year. The number of flight operations at this airport has surged even more dramatically, reaching 1,931 movements by the end of July, up 23.94% from 2025. These achievements are part of a broader positive trend across Moroccan airports, which collectively welcomed 22,282,997 passengers in the first seven months of 2026, compared to 20,487,074 in 2025, marking an overall national growth rate of 8.77%. This upward trajectory in air traffic reflects not only the recovery of the aviation sector but also the growing importance of regional airports in accommodating increasing passenger volumes.
