Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Region Anticipates Major Increase in Cereal Production for 2025-2026

Significant Growth in Cereal Production

The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region is poised to achieve a remarkable cereal production of 14 million quintals for the agricultural campaign of 2025-2026, marking an impressive increase of over 25% compared to the previous season. This announcement was made by El Mahjoub Lahrach, the regional director of Agriculture, during a recent meeting held in Kénitra at the Regional Center for Agronomic Research. Lahrach highlighted that the average yield has improved from 22 to 26 quintals per hectare, a positive outcome attributed to the favorable rainfall experienced across various agricultural zones in the region.

Challenges and Innovations in Agriculture

The agricultural campaign encompasses nearly 520,000 hectares dedicated to cereal cultivation. Lahrach emphasized the significant efforts made by the Ministry of Agriculture and its partners to support farmers, particularly throughout the harvesting period. Mohamed El Bouyahyaoui, the president of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Agricultural Chamber, underscored the strategic importance of cereal production for the national agricultural economy and the Kingdom's food security. He also addressed several challenges the sector faces, such as rising production costs, climate change, and the volatility of international markets. Advocating for increased modernization within the sector, he called for the adoption of innovative technologies and a revamp of the agricultural insurance system to better mitigate climate-related risks.

Additionally, Abdelhamid Riani, a representative of the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development (COMADER), pointed out that the sector's priorities focus on enhancing the value of national production, improving marketing and storage conditions, as well as fostering agricultural innovation. This meeting also provided an opportunity to review the operations related to the collection, storage, and marketing of cereals, along with the measures implemented to support professionals during the harvest campaign. Organized as part of the regional harvest program for 2026 and the 'Generation Green 2020-2030' strategy, this event coincided with the kickoff of the harvesting operations for the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign. It also initiated a series of awareness days aimed at promoting best harvesting practices and minimizing post-harvest losses.
