Celebrating Moroccan Musical Heritage at the Tarab Al Ala Festival

From July 20 to 22, 2026, Rabat will be the vibrant backdrop for the 9th edition of the Regional Tarab Al Ala Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Communication, specifically the Department of Culture. This year's festival carries the theme "Tarab Al Ala, Living and Renewed Heritage" and coincides with the 27th anniversary of the illustrious Throne Festival, as reported in an official statement by the ministry. The festival will unfold across various cultural venues in the capital, highlighting the significance of Tarab Al Ala as a cornerstone of Morocco's authentic musical heritage.

The annual event serves to reinforce the importance of Tarab Al Ala, showcasing its artistic value while engaging younger generations. It aims to promote scientific research and academic documentation, creating a platform for dialogue and exchange among researchers, musicians, and enthusiasts. Festival-goers can look forward to a diverse cultural and artistic program, with the official opening ceremony taking place at the Mohammed V Theatre in Rabat. The Bahmini Hall will host two musical evenings featuring orchestras, musicians, and singers representing the various schools of this art form in Morocco.

Scientific Discussions and Honoring Pioneers

On July 21, the Mohamed El Fassi Hall will be the venue for a scientific colloquium themed "Tarab Al Ala: From Oral Memory to the Challenge of Scientific Documentation." This event aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas regarding the preservation of this ancestral art, leveraging academic research and scientific documentation to safeguard its legacy and transmit it to future generations. Additionally, this edition of the festival will pay tribute to notable figures who have significantly contributed to the prominence of Moroccan Andalusian music through their creativity, research, and dedication. The festival promises not only to celebrate the rich musical heritage of Tarab Al Ala but also to engage and inspire its participants for years to come.
