Revitalization of Access Roads to Ibn Sina University Hospital
After several weeks of construction, the main access road to the Ibn Sina University Hospital (CHU) in Rabat has been reopened to traffic. This significant development follows the completion of extensive renovations aimed at improving the flow of vehicles and ensuring safer connections to the facility. The reopening of this road is particularly crucial as it serves as a primary route for multiple neighborhoods within the capital city, which experience high volumes of traffic daily.
In addition to the roadworks, a pedestrian underpass connecting the hospital to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is nearing completion. This underpass, measuring approximately fifty meters in length, is designed to replace an elevated pedestrian walkway that previously spanned the busy Abderrahim Bouabid Avenue, which links key areas such as Agdal and Hay Riad. The new infrastructure will provide a safe passage for doctors, teachers, students, medical staff, patients, and visitors, allowing them to navigate between the various components of the hospital campus without the need to cross this heavily trafficked thoroughfare.
Infrastructure Development to Support Healthcare Services
The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is strategically located near other institutions affiliated with the Ibn Sina Hospital, including the Children's Hospital of Rabat, the Specialty Hospital, and the Souissi Maternity Hospital. This proximity underscores the importance of the new pedestrian underpass in facilitating access to essential medical services. Furthermore, these renovations are part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the overall infrastructure surrounding the new Ibn Sina University Hospital, which serves as a key healthcare provider in the region. Efforts have been made to reconfigure roadways, access points, and green spaces to accommodate the expected increase in traffic generated by the new hospital complex.
Additionally, nearby stands the Mohammed VI International University Hospital Complex, inaugurated by King Mohammed VI on November 3, 2025. Spanning an impressive 280,000 square meters, this facility includes the Mohammed VI International University Hospital and the Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences, boasting an initial capacity of 600 beds, expandable to 1,000. The completion of these projects signifies a substantial commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services in Rabat, ensuring that residents have improved access to quality medical care.
