Professional Burglar Arrested in Rabat Following Luxury Residential Thefts
A notorious burglar has been apprehended by the judicial police in Rabat, marking a significant breakthrough following a series of high-profile thefts targeting luxury residences in the capital and coastal areas. Over the past few weeks, upscale neighborhoods such as Riad, Agdal, and Hassan in Rabat, as well as coastal regions including Témara, Harhoura, and El Jadida, have faced a wave of burglaries that has left residents on high alert. Thanks to the keen observation of one victim who noted the make and color of the getaway vehicle, law enforcement was able to track down one of the criminals involved in these brazen acts. This professional thief has reportedly committed numerous burglaries, with the total value of stolen goods estimated at around five million dirhams.
On August 13, 2026, the suspect was brought before the prosecutor general at the Riad court following his arrest alongside an accomplice who remains at large. The victims include individuals of notable stature, such as a former major colonel, the child of an African diplomat, and a well-known national caterer. Reports indicate that the stolen items include a substantial collection of jewelry and cash. In one alarming incident, the burglar restrained a domestic worker in a villa located in the Al Menzah area before stealing a significant amount of jewelry from a high-ranking officer's residence. Moreover, the famous caterer was robbed of 500,000 dirhams in cash and equivalent valuables. In another case, a homeowner, while being threatened with a knife, managed to memorize the details of the burglar's vehicle, providing critical evidence for the investigation.
The investigation continues to reveal a growing list of victims, with at least five reported in the Riad area alone, and additional cases identified in Al Mansour, Agdal, Hassan, and Témara, as well as in coastal neighborhoods such as Harhoura and El Jadida. The detectives from the Hay Riad judicial service utilized the vehicle's license plate, registered in Tifelt, to trace its history. Their inquiries led them to the original owner, who provided the name of the buyer, ultimately leading to the arrest of the suspect in a popular neighborhood in Témara last week, where he was subsequently placed in custody.
On Wednesday, the prosecutor ordered the extension of his detention for an additional three days to allow for a deeper investigation into the criminal network's operations, the full scope of its activities, and the possibility of identifying any additional accomplices beyond the one who remains untraceable.
